First Meditation

First Meditation

“Live Me”

This is our first and most important meditation. We will continually return to this mediation. This is the meditation that should be the core of your daily praxis.

Part One

Watch the breath. Don’t try to impose a pattern, simply observe. As you observe, insert your awareness into the breath; deeper, and deeper, into the breath. Simply be aware of the inhale, the pause, the exhale, and the pause.

Part Two

Bring your awareness into the chest, in that area where the heart is. Gradually increase your awareness until you are aware of your entire torso. Breath into it… fill it… pause… exhale… pause…

Part Three

Once your awareness is fully on the process… pray… “Come Holy Spirit, come.”

With each inhalation, each pause, each exhalation, each pause… pray… “Come Holy Spirit, come.”

Continue in this way until you feel a change in awareness. A deepening, a fullness… a sense that the Holy Spirit is with you…

Once you are in this place… have this awareness… pray… “Fill me.”

With each inhalation, each pause, each exhalation, each pause… pray… “Fill me.”

Continue in this way until you feel a change in awareness. An infilling… a gradual sense of being filled up… continue as the sense of this infilling increases… it builds… builds until there is pressure… As the pressure increases your awareness expands…

Once you feel this expansion… pray… “Live me.”

With each inhalation, each pause, each exhalation, each pause… pray… “Live me.”

You will begin to feel the pressure lessen as the content of the breath is spread through the body. Through the shoulders, the arms, the forearms, the hands, out the fingers… Through the torso, hips, and groin, thighs, knees, calves, ankles, feet out the toes…

Breathe… and allow the sense of the Holy Spirit to wash and flow through you, like a river…

Breathe…

Part Four

As you become ready, slowly bring your awareness back to the surface… Open your eyes… widen your eyes as wide as they will go, and look around… Become aware of what is around you…

Part Five

Talk about your experience with someone. Bring it to life, fully into consciousness by expressing it in description and conversation.
